Essential Tools for Stained Glass

Creating stained glass requires a few key tools to bring your designs to life. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your craft, having the right equipment makes all the difference.

Beginner-Friendly Tools:

  • Glass – Choose from a variety of colors and textures to match your design.

  • Glass Cutter & Cutting Oil – A must-have for making clean, precise cuts.

  • Foil – Used to wrap the edges of each piece, helping the solder adhere.

  • Solder & Soldering Iron – Essential for fusing the foiled pieces together.

  • Soldering Stand – Keeps your iron secure and safe when not in use.

  • Flux & Flux Brush – Helps the solder flow smoothly and bond properly.

  • Patina – Available in black or copper for a polished look, or leave your lead lines silver, the natural color of the solder.

  • Polish – Brings out the shine and protects your finished piece.

Advanced & Studio Tools:

  • Band Saw – Used for cutting intricate angles that can’t be done by hand. While most studios don’t offer this service, we provide it for students to help them achieve clean cuts without adding extra lead lines.

  • Grinder – Smooths and shapes the edges for a perfect fit.

  • Zinc or Lead Edging – Adds strength and structure to larger or spherical pieces.

Having the right tools ensures a smooth process, allowing you to focus on the artistry of your stained glass creation!
